Summerhill Day Nursery

The nursery has places for thirty five children between the ages of 0 to 5 and continues to flourish and greatly benefits the community. It was established in 1996 with the help of Lottery Funding and has been completely refurbished in 2002 with funding from Neighbourhood Renewal Fund. The provision of this childcare facility enables parents to access further education and employment. The Nursery offers employment opportunities to residents of the Beechwood and Ballantyne Estates and works with Wirral Metropolitan College to offer student placements (which included 20 from the Bidston Ward) and is able to support students to NVQ Level 3 and 4.

Advice Centre

This project came about after consultation with parent/ carers with children under 5. The Advice Centre provides support and signposting for legal, housing, benefit, employment, training, consumer and debt advice.

During the lifetime of the project parents have gone on to training in Administration and Catering.

In August 2006 this became also the base for the two ReachOut Guidance Workers

Powerhouse

The Powerhouse is a dedicated Youth facility situated in Gaywood Close for people aged 13+. This facility has greatly contributed to the reduction in vandalism on the estate; it was officially opened in September 2003 and has a range of high technology equipment including a dj
mixingroom, games room, junior gym and in the future the use of the Interbase Cyber Café. This facility received funding from Neighbourhood Renewal to refurbish the exterior of the building, to also provide CCTV cameras and a salary for a
Youth Co-ordinator.

Ballantyne Community Centre

This is a new project developed in partnership with the local community of the Ballantyne estate. This centre is due to be officially opened shortly.
