Turning vision after vision into a reality

Beechwood was once an area like many other housing estates in need of much financial help and community support. A group of local residents formed a lobbying group to demand improvements and began to work with Wirral Borough Council and other agencies to bring about strategies to develop the estate.

A derelict supermarket was secured for community use and a Development Trust formed to implement and manage the interests of the community and to secure funding for future initiatives.

Grants from a number of sources, including charities and Wirral Borough Council, resulted in community strategies being developed with one area as a nursery and the other side becoming the estate’s social club.

BT Community Programme offered a generous donation to support grants from the European Regional Development Fund and Wirral Task Force. This helped to complete the building with office and conference accommodation. Named Summerhill House, it is now home to Beechwood Community Trust, Summerhill Day Nursery, and the Neighbourhood College.

Beechwood Community Trust was established in December 1995 and what started as a vision has now become reality- and it doesn’t stop there. Through the development and delivery of current and new projects, Beechwood Community Trust are committed to turning vision after vision into a reality and serve the needs of this community.
